Luckily, our Camp-Resort is located near many unique and must visit cities. A little over 2 hours away, one can find the city of Richmond, Virginia. And if you only have a day to spend in Richmond, it’s sure to be a busy one spent exploring different must-see attractions. Keep reading to find out about some of our favorites.


With 50-acres of botanicals to discover, the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a must visit destination for plant lovers. Guests can marvel at its many blooms and domed conservatory and can also take part in several fun-filled family events throughout the year! Make sure to plan your trip for these events: Butterflies LIVE!, the Goblins and Gourds Halloween event and the GardenFest of Lights held in late November and early January.


Calling all history buffs! Richmond is known for it’s past, especially for it’s part in the Civil War so the American Civil War Museum is the perfect spot to catch up on your American history. There are three sites to discover: The Museum and White House of the Confederacy, the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, and the Museum of the Confederacy. You’ll find a comprehensive collection of artifacts, manuscripts, Confederate books and pamphlets, and photographs!


Looking for unique dining and shopping with historic charm and appeal? Look no further! Carytown is your ideal destination. This must visit neighborhood offers quirky shops like the World of Mirth, delicious eateries and watering holes like Garden Grove Brewing, and special events throughout the year like the annual Watermelon Festival!


Lions, tigers, bears, oh my! Home to more than 2000 animals representing over 190 species from around the world, the Richmond Metro Zoo is a melting pot for animal discovery! While there, you can visit the giraffes up close and even feed them! Plus, don’t miss out on hopping aboard the Safari Train or experiencing the aviary with hundreds of colorful birds flying around! The Zoo is open year round, too!


From experiential exhibits to ancient artifacts to interactive technologies, the Science Museum of Virginia is the place you want to visit to be inspired! There’s also the Dome Theater with a 76 foot high screen making it the largest screen in Virginia!
