Nearby Areas for the Best Fall Foliage
As many of our campers know, our Shenandoah Valley campground offers stunning views of the fall foliage, but the beauty doesn’t stop there! The surrounding area is filled with even more picture-perfect spots to catch the vibrant colors of the season. Check out a few of our favorite scenic stops for unbeatable fall views!
Shenandoah National Park
Shenandoah National Park’s Skyline Drive is the ultimate fall experience, stretching 105 miles along the Blue Ridge ridgeline and showcasing some of the region’s most breathtaking autumn views. Stops like Hazel Mountain Overlook and Jeremys Run provide sweeping valley views framed by vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows in mid- to late October. It's an iconic leaf-peeping route easily accessed from Luray; along the way you'll pass overlooks and trailheads for hiking, photo stops, and peaceful fall vistas.
Big Meadows
At milepost 51 on Skyline Drive lies
Big Meadows, a prime spot for fall camping and hiking. Trails such as Dark Hollow Falls and Lewis Spring Falls wander through hardwood forests ablaze in peak color. Climb to the summit of Blackrock Mountain for panoramic valley views surrounded by rich fall hues. With a lodge, visitor center, and campground, Big Meadows is a full-color fall retreat.
Old Rag Mountain
For those seeking dramatic vistas and rugged hikes,
Old Rag Mountain is unforgettable in autumn. The summit scramble trail ascends through dense hardwood forests that glow with fiery reds and golden maples in mid-October. From the top, valley and ridge views create a spectacular fall overlook. Note that day-use tickets are required during peak season from spring through fall.
